Frequently Asked Questions
The CG-proof Clarifying Detox Shampoo removes build-up from your hair, giving your curls a fresh start in your curl routine. Its deep-cleansing action loosens and rinses away dirt, grease, oils, sebum, silicones, and product residue. This also means that natural oils are removed from both hair and scalp, which can cause dryness. That’s why we recommend using the Clarifying Shampoo only occasionally (every 4–6 weeks), when you notice build-up in your hair.
The Detox Shampoo features a wonderfully fresh menthol scent — perfect for resetting your curls before starting your routine with Curls Control products. Your curls may feel slightly rough afterward, which is a good sign: it means they have been deeply cleansed.
This shampoo is suitable for use within the Curly Girl Method, as it does not contain sulfates. As a powerful cleansing ingredient, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate is used, which is derived from natural coconut-based ingredients. It has properties similar to sulfates and should therefore be used with care. The shampoo has a pH value of 6, which is why we recommend following up with the Cleanser once afterward. The Cleanser has a pH value of 5.
How does build-up occur?
Even if you follow the Curly Girl Method, build-up can still develop. This can be caused by:
- natural accumulation of sweat and sebum;
- product build-up;
- mineral deposits from hard water or chlorine;
- fine dust and pollution from the air.
Unfortunately, this type of build-up cannot be fully removed by washing with only a mild shampoo without deep cleansing.
Yes, Curls Control products can be used with the CG method.
