Curly hair is beautiful, but it can also be a challenge to care for properly. Anyone with curly hair knows that finding the right products and keeping your curls under control isn't always easy. But did you know there's one essential element curly hair needs to look its best? Moisture.

It's true: approximately 80% of curly hair is made up of water. This is due to the unique structure of curls. Unlike straight hair, curly hair consists of multiple layers that together form a spiral structure. This shape allows moisture to better penetrate and be retained within the hair fibers.

If curly hair doesn't get enough moisture, it becomes dry and frizzy. That's why it's important to keep your curls well-hydrated. Here are some tips to ensure your curls always stay optimally nourished and hydrated:

  • Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Choose a shampoo, conditioner, or leave-in specifically formulated for curly hair. These often contain ingredients that lock in moisture and hydrate your hair. Avoid shampoos with sulfates, as they strip your hair of its natural oils.
  • Use a leave-in conditioner. A good conditioner or leave-in will give your curls extra hydration and help retain moisture. Essential oils like argan, jojoba, or coconut oil nourish and protect your hair. You'll find these in the right amounts in Curls Control products.
  • Pamper your curls with a mask at least once a month—or whenever your hair needs it. Use our Moisturizer. It nourishes, hydrates, and restores the moisture balance of your curls. This tackles dry and frizzy hair and restores its natural shine.
  • Limit the use of heat styling tools—or better yet, avoid them altogether. Hair dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can damage your hair and disrupt its moisture balance. Let your hair dry naturally as much as possible, or use a diffuser on a low setting.
  • Protect your hair from the sun. UV rays can dry out your hair and disrupt its moisture balance. Wear a hat or use a leave-in conditioner with UV protection to protect your curls.

By following these tips, you'll ensure your curly hair stays hydrated and shines at its best. Remember: hydration is the key to healthy, shiny hair—especially if you have curly hair!
